With SEC fines sometimes reaching into the hundreds of thousands of dollars for companies that don't retain emails and other important data for an extended period of time, it is disheartening to see that many companies still do not have their documents and emails backed up and stored for the future. Creating, retaining and retrieving information through data backups can often take massive amounts of time and manpower just to find one or two documents requested. In addition, emails are often something destroyed or overwritten during the backup process although they are often one of the most vital data tools for businesses today.

Reliable Backups with the OptiVault

Introducing the OptiVault Archival Appliance from Primera.  This phenomenal device quickly and securely backs up and recovers emails and other important documents without interrupting your existing processes.  OptiVault runs quietly in the background catching and saving all incoming and outgoing emails from Microsoft Exchange, it even catches the ones that are deleted and all attachments.  Even data during specific data ranges can be recovered, for any mailbox.  The OptiVault appliance will easily find the system archives on your backup discs and restore them automatically!

These emails are then stored on optical media using true WORM (Write Once, Read Many) compliance, a critical process for all organizations wishing to comply with the strict email, data and document retention requirements of Sarbanes-Oxley, SEC 17-a, HIPAA and a many of other government regulations in addition to internal usage. With data being stored on DVD media using the WORM technology, the recovery and retrieval process is much quicker than other backup types and more reliable. The OptiVault has a capacity of 117 GB per data backup set which equates to 234 GB after compression, this much data can easily cover hundreds of typical users on a variety of platforms. Optical media archival often lasts for decades, not just years making the OptiVault and ideal backup system!

Utilizing the versatile USB 2.0 connection, the OptiVault archival system is already replacing many types of backup solutions in many organizations and with an optional 19” 4U configuration rack mount and lockable front panel, storage and security go hand in hand.  Archives can also come from a variety of sources including networked client computers running Windows, Mac OS, Linux, Solaris and Netware and with automatic loading of discs by the OptiVault there is no more manual loading of tapes or cartridges and the reliability is unmatched.

Robust Software Solution

Included with the OptiVault is the EMC Dantz® Retrospect® software Single Server Edition with Retrospect Agent for Exchange.  This highly sophisticated software provides not only high-speed indexing but rapid searching as well, working quickly with OptiVault to find and recover specific data from the backup discs and with the most advanced media packet-writing technology combination, data-transfer and write speeds of over 60GB per hour are achieved .  Retrospect also utilizes patent-pending Progressive backup technology so only one copy of any file, no matter how many places it appears, will ever be stored potentially saving many GB of space.

Additional options are also available for disaster recovery of servers down to the "bare-metal" level at the most recent state and even SQL and other open files.  This type of recovery can save hours of headache and time compared to recovery from tape backups.

Reliable Optical Media

What is a backup without reliable media?  Using Primera's TuffCoat DVD media will ensure reliability for many years to come.  With a 50+ year data life, incredibly low error rates, quick-drying high-resolution DVD printable surfaces and a relatively low-cost per disc; your private data will be secured and stored in a safe place until you need it again!
